Numerous publications by Hessam Nowzari must be read as they represent an essential bibliographic database. It is for this reason and also for our friendship over the last twenty years that Hessam Nowzari is again the guest editor of JPIO. The first journal issue was particularly appreciated judging by the enthusiastic “returns” and several favorable opinions. In the second issue, Hessam Nowzari continues the momentum by asking fundamental questions such as gene therapy in periodontology and the attitude of the practitioners with fractured implant screws, or the controversial use of the bovine bone. In fact, the enthusiasm of practitioners for this material is amazing, though unfounded. The value of its use in bone reconstruction will be discussed and its safety will be evaluated. Hessam Nowzari has “a mixed” group of authors from various foreign countries that have had no recent scientific cooperation. I thank him for his initiative which is quite innovative as is his loyalty and friendship.
In order to provide practical solutions to common clinical challenges, experienced clinicians were invited to contribute to the 2nd volume of JPIO. Fractured dental implant abutment screw and cement retention are challenging problems. Solutions are reviewed. Corticotomy facilitated orthodontics is an avant-garde treatment modality. Reluctance to this therapy from the orthodontic community is discussed. Establishing a complete and accurate diagnosis as an essential prerequisite to effective flapless implant placement is emphasized. The safety of bovine-derived bone grafting materials is challenged. I invited scientists and researchers from Iran and Israel to collaborate, interact and contribute to these 2 volumes. The centuries old collaboration between the two exceptionally rich cultures once more produced a positive and prolific outcome. The scientific collaboration generates a conducive environment for further collaboration and more prolific outcomes.
